  Not strictly psychology, but this needs clearing up for the future safety of students: I came across a chap who took away from Cowpe's study the idea that a good way to deal with a chip pan fire was to put water on it. This clips explains why this is not a good idea. For the record the 'wet tea-towel' advice from Cowpe's time has been superseded - the public are now told "Get out, stay out, and dial 999"       The chip-pan fire has become rarer, but young men coming back
