This is a document of Key quotes for OCR Turning to crime gender article by Daly & Wilson (2001). My students couldn't understand how the correlation alone demonstrated gender differences (nor could I to be honest) so here are the key quotes from the paper that take you through the reasoning without having to read all 36 pages! Hope it is helpful!

This is a PowerPoint summary of the BMJ article (the full text is uploaded elsewhere on Pyschexchange) This one won me over to W&D: their study is evolutionary, but it emphasises that people respond to their environment in relation to evolutionary logic. In dangerous, poor, areas of Chicago 'risky strategies' (inc. crime) make more sense than in safe, wealthy areas. Male life expectancy in Chicago districts ranges from 54 (this puts these areas on a par with the Western Sahara) to 77.

Biological explanation with gender link (and a link to the social, even sociological, "spirit-level" explantion!) The original article - which turned out to be from the BMJ! Saved as a word doc from the on line original.
