AQA Spec A PSYA1 Attachments  Very straightforward powerpoint presentation on Bowlby's explanation, preceded by information on Lorenz.  I use the 'ASCMI' mnemonic to help my students remember the points of Bowlby's explanation, and after the powerpoint presentation I got the students to make a 'washing line' of images (a mobile would be a nice alternative) to show 'ASCMI' and the key points.  For homework they researched evaluative points for Bowlby's explanation.

A 5 minute photo movie of images relating to the effects of video games and computers on young people - is linked to the new Media Psychology section of the A2 Psychology due to begin teaching in September 2009. The plan would be that this would be the modelled work, the stduents would then create another movie and explain the psychological effects as a podcast over the images. The soundtrack is Blur's "Jubilee" and Blur's "Entertain Me".

Professor Bloom continues the discussion of emotions as useful evolutionary adaptations for dealing with our social environment. In particular, this lecture describes evolutionary explanations for several important emotional responses, such as the love between parents and their offspring, the gratitude we feel towards cooperative behaviors, the spite we feel for cheaters, and the cultural differences in feelings of revenge.

This lecture introduces students to the study of psychology from an evolutionary perspective, the idea that like the body, natural selection has shaped the development of the human mind. Prominent arguments for and against the theory of natural selection and its relationship to human psychology are reviewed. Students will hear several examples of how studying mental phenomenon from an evolutionary perspective can help constrain theories in psychology as well as explain many prevalent human
