Evaluating Research Studies: GRAVE

My students created this acronym for evaluating research studies about 7 years ago. Despite its critics, it works really well for weaker students. HINT: Although it is called GRAVE add a 'Y' at the end. If asked why a 'Y' is at the end, just say 'exactly! Always explain why/Y the point they are making is relevant to the study.

Here is a blank gravestone which they can fill in when evalauting a study, They can write the name and date of the study on to the headstone and then evaluate using each prompt letter. There is another worksheet which reminds them what the letters stand for. I might laminate these for each student to be used like mini whiteboards which can be written on and wiped clean for next time. I might also photocopy a stack for the classroom.

This worksheet tells them what the letters stand for in the common acronym GRAVE used for evaluating studies. There is another blank sheet which you could produce endles copies of for them to complete each time. I will probably laminate one for their folders which they can refer back to as required.
