This is a table which I will give to the pupils to make sure they have recorded all their categories, subcategories, quotes, mediating factors (from the memoing process) etc...I will get them to highlight their core category; the most important thing is that they also have examples from the text to support their categories/themes; they will then create a model to show how the categories are interconnected and will draw this out on a spearte sheet. Once I have shown my grounde dtheory powerpoint we willprogress with the qualitative anlaysis of the data that we have collcted. Students will work in 2-3s with all the Pp responses to one of our 5 open questions and conduct the analysis as described in the powerpoint. I will give out this sheet so that they understand fully what they need to know from this process for the exam to ensure that they are making approrpate 'process' notes throughout the analysis. We are conducting qualitative analysis on open questions from survey practical for social approach. I am going to teahcd a bit about agrounded theiorun and then have a go withe the students;may seem over simplified for the real qualitative gurus out there but I hope that the stages wthat have to be adhered to will give my pupils plenty to talk about in the exam if asked about how they analysed the qualitative data. Hope it might be of use to some one else and maybe also useful for IB?
