Inferential Statistics Spreadsheet AQA

This is a spreadsheet I use with my Year 12's when they are running their own projects at the end of the year. It goes through the 4 inferential statistical tests they need for AQA A. It gives a hypotheitcal example of each of the tests, but once students understand they can simply change the original data and it should re-calcualte for them. Any problems give me a shout and I'll try to help; some of the formulae got a bit complicated so re-writing the underlying rules may be a bit

Edexcel AS Unit 2 so no Wilcoxon but covers p = 0.5, Chi Square, Mann Whitney and Spearman's Rho Designed to be laminated and cut out then stuck back to back to make two sided cards. Just the right size to be slipped in a mobile phone case...

This is useful for Edexcel Unit 2 brain lateralisation or just research methods practise. Students measure index and ring fingers and then work out the ratio between them (V1). They also work out a maths score from GCSE (V2). This practical stems from work on exposure to testosterone in utero.

Three examples each for Spearman, Chi square, Mann Whitney & Wilcoxon. Students need to look up the values in the tables and say whether the observed value is significant or not.

This is the reference handout I give my students on how to choose an appropriate non-parametric inferential test, and a step by step procedure for how to interpret it and say whether a result is significant. Based on AQA (A) PSYA4.

Choosing a statistical test activity

Simple puzzle activity in which table can be cut into pieces for re-assembling in the correct order. I teach AQA A in which the Sign test is not required, but have included it for completeness as students asked 'Well, what do you use if it's repeated design then?' but made it clear this does not need to be learned. This table covers non-parametric tests only (not sure if other boards use parametric ones), but I do have a complete table that also includes parametric tests as well if

My idea is ...a mnemonic for remembering the inferential statistics - Mann-Whitney is independent groups (a group of Manns and a group of Whitneys) Wilcoxon - repeated measures (Will, the cox g ...
