Looking forward to introducing the teacup model of evaluation to the students, thank you to John Crane - although I have changed some of the words a little from his original acronym to fit better with my teaching. Made this poster for the classroom wall, with a little help from reprographics with the colour, thanks Lorraine! Maybe we will now a "History of Psychology Tea Party" instead of a cocktail party! :)

I find the typesd of validity vary in their defintion depending which book you read them from and they can be very confusing and unsettling for pupils especially the better oens! I have put this sheet of definitions together to go with the activity that I was uploaded. I tell mine to rate the extent of their confidence in matchign exmaple to definitions and then get them to work harder on the ones tbey understand less but realisitcally they probably only need about two types of valdiity; I

I have created some little examples that I hope are illustrative of different types of reliability and validity in diagnosis to conjure discussion between pupils. I have written my answers in the column and the smiley face is to indicate if it is an example of good or bad relaibility or validity.

I found this article on the internet when searching under meta-analysis play therapy as I wanted a study to help evaluate Axline's Dibs as a key study for Edexcel Psychodynamic Approach. It is becoming increasingly clear in the mark schemes that for a level 4 essay, evaluation of studies should not just be methodological, it should include something else as well. The something else is the A in GRAVE: applications to real life. How has this study been useful to society. This means you need

A complicated possibility in the Paper 4 edexcel exam for which pupils need to be prepared, I could predict seeing this for 4 marks perhaps more..."Compare two defintions of abnormality". The activty accompanies my handout on this theme. Cut up the cards; pupils should look at the statements and decide whether they apply to both defintions or just one of the defintions and discuss why in pairs; they could then join with another pairs and discuss their thoughts; they can then look at the cards

Dressed as an Edexcel Paper 4 contribution to society (social approach), I have tried to explain how psychologists such as Zimbardo have helped society by providing a defense for the likes of Lynndie England. On reflection, whether this is a positive or negative contribution, the jury are still out....

A powerpoint where most info cribbed from the blue gross. I find this topic hard going and so have left quite a lot of the implications of researhcch out as chances are they wont need nearly this much for an SAQ anyway and lots of simple GRAVE on the studies would give them plenty of AO3 in an essay anyway...I hope.

Here is sample question that could be used for IB Paper 3 HL. Its a study by Sue Wilkinson that was used as an example in the book by Jonathon Smith (2008) whre Wilksinson write a chapter on focus groups. The book is excellent and its called Qualitative Psychology: A practical guide to research methods. I have made up three questions.

Something fun for start of term to welcome back The IB Crowd, as I like to call them, of course with only 3 of them that is perhaps an exaggeration...anyway, show first slide with the Sarah Brightman memory track playing, then see how quickly they can recall all ten items, they will have to time themeslves with stopwatches. The show second slide with the scary car ad remix. Mine have seen the original already for a different activity so this just racks it up beyond compare! Yuo ned to make it
