Mandy Wood @ resourcd

I have taught psychology since 1998 and am a little startled that makes me sound archaic. I have also worked as a psychologist working with children who have down syndrome and their families/practitioners etc. I currently teach Edexcel A level and International Baccalaureate Psychology at Portsmouth Grammar School, on the South Coast, UK.

Commented on Edexcel 2015 Use of animals in research (reference to 1986 act and BPS)

A homework activity for the use of animals in research (Learning Theories). File contains h/w sheet and BPS guidelines which include reference to 1986 Scietific Procedures Act and Home Office guidlelines. Can be used as a flipped h/w, I intend to set the homework at the start of the unit and then debate the ethics of using animals after teaching conditioning. (Scenario is based on Olds and Milner)

Uploaded a file called Types of validity

I find the typesd of validity vary in their defintion depending which book you read them from and they can be very confusing and unsettling for pupils especially the better oens! I have put this sheet of definitions together to go with the activity that I was uploaded. I tell mine to rate the extent of their confidence in matchign exmaple to definitions and then get them to work harder on the ones tbey understand less but realisitcally they probably only need about two types of valdiity; I stick to predictive and concurrent although I find descriptive is quite straight forward.

Uploaded a file called Mix and match activity on reliability and validity of diagnosis

I have created some little examples that I hope are illustrative of different types of reliability and validity in diagnosis to conjure discussion between pupils. I have written my answers in the column and the smiley face is to indicate if it is an example of good or bad relaibility or validity.

Uploaded a file called An article on play therapy

I found this article on the internet when searching under meta-analysis play therapy as I wanted a study to help evaluate Axline's Dibs as a key study for Edexcel Psychodynamic Approach. It is becoming increasingly clear in the mark schemes that for a level 4 essay, evaluation of studies should not just be methodological, it should include something else as well. The something else is the A in GRAVE: applications to real life. How has this study been useful to society. This means you need something meaningful to write that is evidence-based. I will be finding somethign for my pupils in this article.
