Mandy Wood @ resourcd

I have taught psychology since 1998 and am a little startled that makes me sound archaic. I have also worked as a psychologist working with children who have down syndrome and their families/practitioners etc. I currently teach Edexcel A level and International Baccalaureate Psychology at Portsmouth Grammar School, on the South Coast, UK.

Uploaded a file called Edexcel Clinical Key Issue and EoP

A worksheet detailing the task requirements for our new key issue and eop for Edexcel clinical psychology as discussed at our cluster group meeting in November. I hope the pupils will complete this over the xmas holidays and will report back on the quality in due course. Many thanks to Mark and Helen for coming down/over to see us at PGS and I hope you might be able to find some use for this. The websites at the end are really helpful esp http://www.nepho.org.uk/cmhp/ which they can use as a source of secondary data about the town where they live in terms of the risk factors for mental health problems etc. It also has links to all the 2011 materials from the government about the new mental health act and "No health without mental health" policy.

Uploaded a file called Comparing social and statistical norms definitions

A complicated possibility in the Paper 4 edexcel exam for which pupils need to be prepared, I could predict seeing this for 4 marks perhaps more..."Compare two defintions of abnormality". The activty accompanies my handout on this theme. Cut up the cards; pupils should look at the statements and decide whether they apply to both defintions or just one of the defintions and discuss why in pairs; they could then join with another pairs and discuss their thoughts; they can then look at the cards with smaller print, which are essentiually the answers and see whether their discussions matched up or not.

Uploaded a file called Abu Ghraib handout

Dressed as an Edexcel Paper 4 contribution to society (social approach), I have tried to explain how psychologists such as Zimbardo have helped society by providing a defense for the likes of Lynndie England. On reflection, whether this is a positive or negative contribution, the jury are still out....
