I foudn this having searched for the author of the essay uploaded by George Marshall, so the two things together could be handy, with the clip as  alittle lesson stater maybe, not a lot on content but nice to put this guy's face to his name, thanks again George :O)

Daniel Dennett on cultural evolution and dangerous memes

A TED clip which might be interesting following the allusions to memes and cultural evolution on a recent forum thread. Does anyone feel that their brain has been hijacked by parasitic ideas? Does anyone think that Dennett has a mental health problem because he talks about our brains being infected with ideas, of course not, and if he was a known drug taker would that have changed things?

Families choose whether their male children will grow up as 'fafafini': that is men who live their lives as women. In Samoa if you act like a woman you are a woman and thus when men have a relationship with a fafaini it is considered to be heterosexual.

Astonishing news story about Wesley Autry, who threw himself onto the track in front of an oncoming train to protect an epileptic man who had fallen onto the track whilst having a fit. They both survived. Great for situational and dispositional causes in explaining behaviour, fits perfectly with Zimbardo work on everday heroes.

Paul resists authority here and it is useful for teaching about individual differences and the role of dispositional facotrs and well as situational ones. Useful then for IB.

Fabulous movie, this should whet the pupils appetites so watch it themselves if you don't have time to watch the whole movie with them. Ideal for Social identity Theory and prejudice.

If you teahc IB, this could be useful for teaching about dispositional explanations of behaviour. Again you may not wish to show whole clip but I like the bit where they look at the fact that many people who end up in the same job have similar personalities and then discussing reciprocal determinsim.

New York construction worker Wesley Autry rescued a young man from the subway tracks on which he fallen during a seizure. While 75 people watched from the platform, and did nothing, did something. He handed over his two daughters to a stranger to care for them as he jumped down on the tracks and held down the man between the two tracks as the subway train ran over them. Both survived. Zimbardo has moved on from showing how social situations can elicit unthinkably evil behaviour to how ordinary

Classic film documenting the Rwanda Genocide of 1994. When do we ever get tiem to show a whole feature film? Never, for me, so here is the trailer and I have also uploaded one important clip as well where Paul resists the authority of the Hutu militia. Although situationalist accounts backed by evidence such as that provided by Zimbardo and Milgram help explain much behaviour, the role of personality and dispositional factors is still important for understanding the behaviour of the

Classic clip where Paul resists the authority of the Hutu militia. Although situationalist accounts backed by evidence such as that provided by Zimbardo and Milgram help explain much behaviour, the role of personality and dispositonal facotrs is still imporant for understanding the behaviour of the minority who are able to resist and to remain autonomous. I will be using this for IB learning outcome 1 from socio-cultural cognition (SCLOA) but also to evaluate agency theory with Edexcel.
